Eleanor Kahn is a Chicago-based interdisciplinary artist, with a focus on scenic and installation design. Her work is centered around the idea that the where, when, and how we receive information is as important as what that information is; context is everything. By creating and shaping the environment, Eleanor believes that art can directly affect how people view and experience the world.
Eleanor was born in Maquoketa, IA. She received her Bachelor in Architecture from Iowa State, with a second major in Performing Arts. From there, she received her MFA in Theatrical Design from Boston University. She has since lived in Chicago where her work has been primarily in the world of theater. She has been the scenic and/or details designer on over 100 shows and counting since her arrival in 2012. Her work also branches into other realms of spatial design and includes installation and experiential work. Highlights include: Installation Designer in Millennium Park celebrating 2019’s Year of Chicago Theater; Lead Details Designer on Hebru Brantley’s experience Nevermore Park, based on his Flyboy Universe; and being the first Artist-in-Resident with the city of Des Moines, IA.
