Eleanor Kahn is a Chicago-based designer creating spaces, environments and experiences.  Her work is rooted in theatrical design and is informed by her background in architecture.  The scope of her designs has grown to include public art, immersive installations, events, and any opportunity to bring people, place, and story into conversation.

Eleanor is passionate about the spaces between disciplines and the possibilities that emerge when the conventions of one form are applied to another. Working outside of theater continually brings new ideas about space, scale, audience, materials, and participation back into her theatrical work, while the storytelling, collaboration, and immediacy of theater shape how she approaches projects beyond the stage. 

Eleanor earned a Bachelor of Architecture and a second major in Performing Arts from Iowa State University before receiving her MFA in Scenic Design from Boston University. She has designed well over 200 productions and collaborated with theaters, artists, musicians, arts organizations, and community groups both regionally and internationally. Eleanor continues to explore how changing the environment can change the way a story is experienced, and how her designs create opportunities for audiences to engage with stories in new and unexpected ways.
